This striking brooch was made circa mid to late 1800s, and features a stunning series of "bullseye" black banded agate. This stone was revered in the Victorian era for its deep black tones with contrasting white stripes, making it an ideal choice for mourning jewelry. This one is set in gold tone pinchbeck (mixed metal made to look like gold) and has been professionally cleaned, making it shine like the day it was made. On the back, a glass panel can be lifted out and a photo or other memento stored inside. There is one superficial crack to one of the small agates (pictured), but otherwise this piece is in fantastic condition.
