This is a wonderful and rare example of a "salesman sample", made circa late 1800s. Door to door salesmen would cart around small scale versions of a companies' furniture, so that they could bring the showroom to people directly in their home - albeit in miniature! This lovely little piece is made entirely of solid walnut, and would be a mini version of a chest or commode (low, compact dresser). Made with all the care of its larger version, including dovetail joinery throughout, diamond-shape escutcheons, and sweet turned legs. Also included is the original key, which works well in the top and bottom drawers, but not so much the middle drawer.
